Course Etiquette – Play Well, Play Fair
We’d love all members and visitors to embrace the spirit of golf—respect for the game, the course, and each other. Our staff are here to support great etiquette and course care, so please treat them with the same respect you’d expect on the fairway.
Respect the Game
Enjoy your round at Capel Golf Club while making sure others can do the same. A little awareness goes a long way in keeping the day flowing smoothly for everyone.
- Stay in position with the group ahead
- If you fall behind, make an effort to catch up
- If there’s space ahead and a faster group behind, please let them play through
On the Course
- Repair all pitch marks (properly!)
- Replace your divots
- Rake bunkers after use and leave them as you’d like to find them
- Place rakes in the designated blue-lined areas
Simple Ways to Speed Up Play
- Watch your ball closely and use landmarks to help locate it
- Play a provisional ball if there’s any doubt
- Walk briskly between shots
- Be ready to play when it’s your turn
- Plan your putt while others are playing (without distracting them)
- Leave your bag in a spot that makes for an easy exit to the next tee
- Keep score without holding up play
- In Stableford, pick up if you can’t score
Course Care Matters
A few small actions during your round make a big difference to the course and everyone playing it.
- Greens: Repair pitch marks immediately—damage left too long takes much longer to recover
- Fairways & Tees: Use sand buckets and repair divots carefully to avoid poor lies for others
- Bunkers: Smooth the surface and leave rakes outside on the blue markers
Look after the course, respect your fellow golfers, and you’ll help keep Capel Golf Club in top condition for everyone to enjoy.
